Rohtas Fort

Near the city of Jehlum lies Rohtas Fort a 16th-century fortress in the Pakistani province of Punjab. The fortress was constructed during the rule of Sher Shah Suri. The fort was designed to suppress the local Gakhar tribes of the Potohar region. The Gakhar families were associates of the Mughal Empire and refused to recognize the suzerainty of Sher Shah Suri. The fort is one of the greatest and most intimidating in the subcontinent. Rohtas Fort was never charged by force and has remained remarkably sound.
